Thanksgiving for Faithfulness

Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thes­salonians in the Al­mĭgh­ty, our Fă­ther and ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah: ^1:2Loving-kindness to you and shalōm from the Al­mĭgh­ty, the Fă­ther and ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah.

^3We ought always to give thanks to the Al­mĭgh­ty for you, brothers, as is fitting, because your faithfulness is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater. ^4Therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the assemblies of the Al­mĭgh­ty for your perseverance and faithfulness in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure, ^5which are a plain indication of the Al­mĭgh­ty’s righ­teous decision that you should be found worthy of the kingdom of the Al­mĭgh­ty, for which indeed you are suffering. ^6Because after all it is just for the Al­mĭgh­ty to repay with affliction those who afflict you, ^7and to give relief to you who are afflicted, and to us as well when ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ will be revealed from heaven with his mighty messengers in flaming fire, ^8dealing out retribution to those who do not know the Al­mĭgh­ty and to those who do not obey the good news of our ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒. ^9And these will pay the penalty of everlasting destruction, away from the presence of Yăhwēh and from the glory of his power, ^10when he comes to be glorified in his holy ones on that day, and to be marveled at among all those who affirmed faithfulness, because our testimony to you was affirmed faithful.

^11To this end also we pray for you always that our Al­mĭgh­ty may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faithfulness with power, ^12in order that the name of our ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the loving-kindness of our Al­mĭgh­ty and ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah.

The Man of Lawlessness

Now we request you, brothers, with regard to the coming of our ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah, and our gathering together to him, ^2:2that you should not be quickly shaken from sensible thinking or be disturbed either by a spirit or a word or a letter as if from us, as if that the day of Yăhwēh has now come. ^3May no one deceive you in any way, because whenever, it cannot have come. The apostasy is first when the man of lawlessness shall be revealed, the son of destruction, ^4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of the Al­mĭgh­ty, displaying himself as being the Al­mĭgh­ty.

^5Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? ^6And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he may be re­vealed, ^7because the mystery of law­less­ness is already at work. Only what now restrains will do so until out of the midst he may come. ^8And then that lawless one will be re­vealed whom Yăhwēh will slay with the breath of his mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of his coming, ^9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Sâtan, with all power and signs and false wonders, ^10and with all the deception of wickedness for those perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth that they might be saved.

^11And for this reason the Al­mĭgh­ty will send upon them a deluding influence so that they might trust what is false, ^12in order that they all may be judged who did not affirm faithfulness in the Truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.

^13But we should always give thanks to the Al­mĭgh­ty for you, bro­thers, beloved by Yăhwēh, because the Al­mĭgh­ty has chosen you as the first-fruit for salvation through sanc­tification, by the Spĭr­it and faith­fulness in the truth. ^14And it was for this he called you through our good news, that you may gain the glory of our ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah.

^15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by spoken word or by letter from us. ^16Now may our ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah himself, and the Al­mĭgh­ty our Fă­ther, who has loved us and given us everlasting comfort and good hope by loving-kindness, ^17comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

Exhortation

Finally, brothers, pray for us that the word of Yăhwēh may spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you, ^3:2and that we may be delivered from perverse and evil men, because not all have faithfulness. ^3But Yăhwēh is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. ^4And we have confidence in Yăhwēh concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. ^5And may Yăhwēh direct your hearts into the love of the Al­mĭgh­ty and into the steadfast endurance of Mĕs­si­ah.

^6Now we command you, bro­thers, in the name of our ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah, that you keep aloof from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us, ^7because you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an un­disciplined manner among you, ^8nor did we eat anyone’s bread with­out paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we might not be a burden to any of you, ^9not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, that you might fol­low our ex­ample.

^10Because even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone will not work, neither let him eat.

^11Because we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. ^12Now such per­sons we command and exhort in ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread.

^13But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary of doing good. ^14And if anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that man and do not associate with him, so that he may be put to shame. ^15And yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admo­nish him as a brother.

^16Now may the ’Adŏ­nai̱ of shalōm himself continually grant you shalōm in every circumstance. Yăhwēh be with you all!

^17I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand, and this is a distinguishing mark in any letter. This is the way I write.

^18The loving-kindness of our ’Adŏ­nai̱ Yĕshūa̒ the Mĕs­si­ah be with you all.
