Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary

 

5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the Torah, that the man doing the commandments shall live by them6 And, this righteousness from faithfulness in this way speaks: "Do not say in your heart, who will ascend into heaven?", (that is, to bring Messiah down,) 7 or "Who will descend into the abyss?", (that is to bring Messiah up from the dead). 8 but what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of the faithfulness which we proclaim); 9 since if you shall confess with your mouth, YHWH Yeshua, and commit in your heart, because God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one is committing to righteousness, and with the mouth is confession regarding salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Everyone committing themselves to Him will not be put to shame. 12 For there is no difference.  Jews as well as also Greek.  For He is Adonai of all, rich to all those calling on Him. 13 For everyone that may call upon the name of YHWH will be saved" (DLT: torahtimes.org, Rom. 10:5-13).

 

Comment: vs. 5-6. The righteousness of Torah and the righteousness of faithfulness are one and the same righteousness.  vs. 6-7. The faithful one does not say I am good enough to go to heaven, because this will lower Messiah, nor does the faithful one say that God cannot forgive sin such that someone cannot avoid damnation, because this is to say that Messiah did not die and pay the penalty.   vs. 8. The word of faithfulness is near.  The transgressor knows what he or she should repent.  The דרש is on Deut. 30:11-14.  Paul could not have possibly appealed to this passage for authority unless he legitimately believed it taught the Torah in conjunction with faithfulness and repentance.  To think otherwise is to suppose that Paul raped the context.  vs. 9. One must faithfully trust with the heart.  That means a commitment to God in the heart, enabled because of knowledge that God raised Yeshua from the dead, so that he may also raise us up to new life. vs. 10.  Faithful trust leads to righteousness.   It also is 'for' God's justice applied to Yeshua in payment of the penalty, and the confession of the truth is in the mouth with respect to salvation. vs. 11  In this context with the Greek preposition, the sense is "depending on Him".  vs. 13 The "name" of God is his reputation and fame, his ability to forgive the sinner and save the repentant.  (DLC: torahtimes.org)
