Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary

The Renewed Covenant by Daniel Gregg

"Leviticus 23:15 And ye shall count unto you in the day after the Sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; Seven Sabbaths shall be complete" (DLT: torahtimes.org).

in the day after: ממחרת. The Hebrew sense of day here means in the time after or time to come after.  The word 'day' is often used for a period of time beyond just one day.  The context shows that the counting was not just in the very next day, but covered the period of 50 days. ממחרת is the preposition מ plus מחר.  The base word is a contraction of יום אחר.

the Sabbath: השבת. the annual Sabbath for Passover on the 15th of Nisan.

Seven Sabbaths: שבע שבתות. These were regular weeks, each week ending with the Sabbath day, which are enumerated on the Sabbath day.   We learn that the weeks are counted in other texts.  But here is an explicit command to count Sabbaths.   Even if only a partial week remains between the Passover and the following weekly Sabbath, that Sabbath is the completion of the first week after the manner of inclusive counting.  So that Sabbath is the first Sabbath."
