Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary

Justice Done for Us

"1 Therefore, justice is done for us by faithfulness, so we have peace with God through our Lord Yeshua, Messiah." (DLT: torahtimes.org, Romans 5:1).

___

"Justice is done for us" = the penalty is paid for us.  The "faithfulness" here refers to Messiah's faithfulness to the cross where God's penal justice was satisfied for us.   The term Δικαιωθεντες in classical Greek means "to have justice done" and refers to a penal payment or judgment.  It does not mean "made righteous" or even "declared righteous".  The verb is used in the way Paul uses it here in the book of Ecclesiasticus in the LXX.
