Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary

The Renewed Covenant by Daniel Gregg

"Romans 10:4 For Messiah is the end of the norm for justice to everyone who faithfully trusts" (DLT: torahtimes.org).

comment1: This text doesn't say that Messiah Yeshua put and end to the Torah for righteousness.   He didn't.  See Deut. 6:25.  What it says in plain Greek is that Messiah is the end of the norm for justice.  The norm for justice is that the sinner must pay his own penalty for sin.   On the other hand, the Torah and the Prophets provide Yeshua's substitutionary atonement as an exception to this norm (cf. Isaiah 53:8, 10).  So if anyone repents and faithfully trusts in Yeshua, then the normal penalty does not apply.

norm : νομος. מנהג, נורמה. See BDAG, 3rd edition, definition 1.

justice : δικαιοσυνη. צדקה. BDAG, 3rd edition, def. 1.  This justice means the divine justice required by God in payment of the penalty for sin.

faithfully trusts : πιστευω. האמן. See BDAG, 3rd edition, def. 2.  Biblical faith is not just "believe".  No,  it is a "total commitment to the one who is trusted" (pg. 817). (DLC: torahtimes.org)
