Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary
Commandments are not used to Condemn Faithful
comment1: This text does not abolish the Torah. By mistranslating it, the antinomian translators destroyed the gospel Paul was trying to teach in this text. What is made of no effect is the penalty of the Torah. That's what the good news of Yeshua is—He satisfied the penalty of the Torah for us who put our trust in Him. He became our peace offering with God, and made Jew and Gentile one in Messiah, that is, one people, one nation under God, joined into one commonwealth of Israel, and fellow citizens with the holy ones built on the foundation of the sent ones and the prophets. Amen.
usage : νομος. מנהג, נורמה. See LSJ, definition 1, or TDNT, def. 1.
for : εν. On the interchange between εν and εις see the Grammars. This has to do with the Hebrew overlap of ב and ל. But see alternative reading below.
judgments : LSJ, def. 2, "judgment"; Thayer def. 1, "judgment ". Alternative reading: "usage of the decrees in legal opinions".
renewed : καινος. Refer to the Hebrew חדשה.
mankind : ανθρωπος = אדם.
comment2: The middle wall has two interpretations. First it is the sin barrier between God and man, epitomized by restricted access to God's holy presence in his Temple. Yeshua loosed the curtain. He did not tear it down. He loosed the curtain so that when final cleansing is made on the eschatological day of atonement, we may approach the throne of grace fully perfect and full cleansed of all sin. Second, the middle barrier represents restricted Gentile access to the temple because of Gentile transgression. These are now forgiven by the sacrifice of Messiah, so that the nations now have an open way to join God's covenant with Israel, and so that they will not be kept out, but in the age to come will be allowed to worship in the New Temple, the New Jerusalem.
