Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary

The Renewed Covenant by Daniel Gregg

"Exodus 16:1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second  month after their departing out of the land of Egypt" (DLT: torahtimes.org).

on the fifteenth day: This was on the first day of the week.  Iyyar (Ziv) had 29 days in that year.   The quail settled on the camp in the afternoon, between the settings, when they caught and cooked them.   The manna appeared on the morning of the second day of the week.  According to Seder Olam , the first day of Iyyar, the second month was on the first day of the week,  "And one toward the Sabbath it was" (ואחד בשבת היה).  This is correct because to put it a day earlier would cause Israel to gather and cook quail on the Sabbath.  This date is astronomically confirmed since the 15th of Iyyar did fall on Sunday in 1632 BC, the year of the Exodus after adjusting for Joshua's long day."
