Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary

The Renewed Covenant by Daniel Gregg

"Galatians 3:11-12 Because yet according to principle no one satisfies justice before God, clearly, because the righteous one will live by faithfulness, and the usage is not by faithfulness except when the one doing them will live by them" (DLT: torahtimes.org).

principle : Paul omits the article before νομω.  But it can also read "according to law" or "according to custom".  One can exegete good sense out of all these rendering.

satisfies justice : δικαιουται. "is being done justice" or "has justice done to one".  Divine justice is not placated by deeds for acquittal.  BDAG, 3rd, edition, def. 1, "takes us a cause", i.e. argues a case, or "show[s] justice" i.e. demonstrates it legally.  The classical sense of the word in normal Greek.

faithfulness : πιστεως.  The Greek word πιστις means in the very best Greek Lexicon means "1a. faithfulness, reliability, fidelity, commitment" (BDAG, 3rd Edition, pg. 818).  It reflects the meaning of its Hebrew equivalent אמונה.  Paul interprets Habakkuk 2:4 to refer to both Messiah's faithfulness and our faithfulness in response.  The Church misses Paul's point most of the time due to exclusive emphasis on the believer's faith.

usage : a related sense of νομος, which focuses more on the habit or actual practice of the law. (DLC: torahtimes.org)
