Daniel's Literal Translation and Commentary
The Renewed Covenant by Daniel Gregg
"Revelation 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for YHWH, God Almighty is the temple of it and the Lamb" (DLT: torahtimes.org).
comment1: The dimensions given for the New Jerusalem are in the shape of a cube. In fact they are the same proportions as the holy of holies in the Temple. The question is why the city has no temple in it. The reason is that the city itself is the house of YHWH, and the inner most sanctuary is YHWH and the Lamb Himself. That is what the Greek word ναος means here.
comment2: or alternatively, "is the temple of it—even the Lamb".
comment3: As the Temple replaced the Tabernacle, so in the age to come, the New Jerusalem will replace the Holy of Holies, and Ezekiel's Temple will replace the altar in the court. For the glory of the latter house will be greater than the former (Haggai 2:9). And the whole land will be the courts of the temple. Ezekiel's temple will be located at the site of the old sanctuary at Shiloh. It will serve as the altar, where the sacrifices are done for ritual cleansing. The New Jerusalem will serve as the holy of holies where the Almighty dwells.
comment4: The geography of the land will change. The Mt. of Olives will split in two from east to west. Half will go north, and half will go south. Half the old temple site will go north, and half will go south. After things settle down the New Jerusalem will come down from heaven and Ezekiel's temple will be built outside the camp. For it is written, "And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of hisplace, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:" (Zech. 6:13), and also "He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid." (Isaiah 44:28). (DLC: torahtimes.org)
