Messiah wants Loyalty

 

"31 And they doth say, 'Faithfully commit on YHWH Yeshua, and you will be saved and your house" (DLT: torahtimes.org, Acts 16:31).

The Apostles are not just asking the Philippian Jailor to believe something.  They are asking him to affirm the promise by declaring fealty to Messiah.  The linguistic idea is "[af]firm on ... Yeshua", in other words make your oath of loyalty.   The jailor knew his life was forfeit under Roman law if any prisoner escaped.  He now owed his life to the God of Paul who prevented them from escaping.

hen their obedience of faithfulness, which cleanses their hearts.   Their faithfulness is taken from Messiah's faithfulness as the source of sanctification.   The idea behind cleansing here is the removal of sinful desires and thoughts from the heart by the power of the Holy Spirit.
